I am Giorgia La iuppa, a 17-year-old Italian girl who lives in Novara, Piedmont.
I’m attending the fourth year of the ITI OMAR Chemical Institute.
If I had to describe myself in a few words I would say I am curious, clever, resolute and determined to best achieve my goal; but also stubborn and perhaps too precise.
If I decide to take part in a project or a race, I always try hard to complete it and to win.Tell us what the water concern in your country is!
In my country, water concern is divided by zones. In northern Italy the problem is almost non-existent because there are lakes and water reserves, from the centre to the south the problem increases due to the low-rainy climate, the lack of big lakes and outdated infrastructure.
Water is the most precious asset for every nation. Our project, based on environmental sustainability and in particular the reduction of water waste, uses beta-cyclodextrins (completely natural and starch-derived) absorbed in Liquidambar berries (abundant material in nature) for the removal of heavy metals and polluting molecules from the water. The plan was born from the observation, on our territory, of berries, which have a particular structure, because of the high contact surface (both external and internal). Our idea, in addition to using abundant waste material as berries are not used in other sectors, it is also very practical, because we could use beta-cyclodextrins absorbed in berries, for water purification in the drainage channels of the rice paddies present in our…
